The road trip through hell begins at the intersection of greed and bad luck.
Stan wants to make a fast buck. Mike has just lost his job. Together, they decide to take a little road trip delivering a car for Andre the Giant, the big man with the big deals on used cars. It's simple, Andre says. Just deliver a collectible 1962 Cadillac from Cleveland to Miami over the weekend. Stan's all for the money, and Mike's all for forgetting his rotten luck.
However, other people want the car. Other people like Tim Mason, the man who cost Mike his job and married his ex-wife. People like Cinnamon, the truckstop hooker who seems a bit too smart to be turning tricks for lonely truckers. People like Carlo Estevez and Terri Kennedy, a nearly-retired cop and an overworked FBI agent on the trail of a stolen holy relic. People like Bishop Daniel Gallagher, whose new position as Bishop of Cleveland is threatened by a holy relic's disappearance.
Most of all, people like Julian Franco want the car. And he wants the relic. Because Mr. Franco may be a decadent and murderous drug lord, but he is a deeply spiritual man.
Road Rules is a fast paced trip from America's North Coast to Savannah, Georgia, where a sleepy southern city is upended by a collision between three hapless road trippers, the law, the Church, three different sets of thieves, and two former Columbian hitmen now doing The Lord's work.
